Yaz Stroke Information

Our Dangerous Drug Lawyers Can Help

Yaz is the commonly used brand name for the combination of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, (estrogen or EE), which is generally prescribed as an oral contraceptive or birth control. Yasmin, known generically as Ocella, also contains drospirenone but with a higher level of EE. Both Yaz and Yasmin / Ocella purport to be 99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy when taken in accordance with the manufactures’ directions. Potential side effects of fourth generation birth control are being catalogued under a variety of symptoms, which include strokes and blood clots.

If someone in your family suffered a stroke after taking Yaz, call (877) 958-7920 to speak with our dangerous drug lawyers.

Dangers of Yaz

In 2006, the FDA approved Yaz for U.S. distribution as a birth control method. In 2008, the FDA issued a written warning to global manufacturer Bayer Group for false advertisement and lack of warning of the potentially serious side effects. Marketed as a fourth generation birth control that also helps manage premenstrual dysphoric disorder, (PMDD), as well as PMS and moderate acne, there is mounting concern and evidence of harmful side effects. These include stroke and heart attacks. Blood clots and “mini-strokes”—even in families with no history of stoke—are also being reported.

Yaz stroke problems are arising all across the United States and several lawsuits have been filed against Bayer Healthcare and Teva (maker of generic Ocella).

Stroke symptoms can include:

  • Headaches
  • Numbness or paralysis along one side of the body.
  • Confusion
  • Vomiting
  • Fine motor skill difficulty – walking, speaking
  • Difficulty seeing

Higher levels of potassium may be indicated as well for certain women. The increase of blood thickening along with the higher levels of potassium may cause blood clots to form. Once formed, blood clots could travel to the brain and cause death if not treated by certified medical personal.

The dangerous drug attorneys at Shrader & Associates are highly skilled in representation and can advise you of any potential claim against the manufacturer of Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella.
